EDUCATOR TALENT DEVELOPMENT
ENSURING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR STUDENTS
CREEED supports initiatives that provide teachers and administrators with increased professional and leadership development opportunities. Our work is focused on the entirety of the teaching pipeline from preparation to retention and mentorship once in the classroom.
Highly motivated and well-trained educators are essential to increasing educational attainment and preparing all students for postsecondary education. Strong teachers set expectations and drive results for their students. To strengthen the quality of instruction in our schools, CREEED is working with school districts across El Paso to identify opportunities and challenges within the region’s educator workforce. CREEED is partnering with colleges, universities, and successful teacher preparation programs to increase opportunities for educators to improve their skills using new, innovative approaches to teaching.

Examples of CREEED’s commitment to educator development include our partnership with the UTEP Miner Teacher Residency program and the Miner Teacher Mentorship Program, as well as our Accelerated Certification of Teachers (ACT) El Paso scholarship program.
UTEP MINER TEACHER RESIDENCY PROGRAM
In early 2019, CREEED helped establish a partnership between UTEP’s College of Education and US PREP, a national teacher training organization that partners with universities to transform their teacher preparation programs, resulting in the creation of the Miner Teacher Residency Program. This innovative year-long training program puts aspiring teachers directly in the classroom and pairs them with experienced teachers to serve as their mentors as they navigate how to prepare for instruction and develop interactive lesson plans, manage classroom settings, set high expectations, and teach to the diverse needs of their students.

One-hundred eighty three (183) aspiring teachers have completed or are currently enrolled in the program. These aspiring teachers have been paired with mentor teachers at Socorro ISD, El Paso ISD, and Ysleta ISD who are official partners of the residency program. As of 2021, CREEED and the El Paso Community Foundation have received $2.4 Million in grants from the Prentice Farrar Brown & Alline Ford Brown Foundation, a fund managed by Bank of America, to support this work.
UTEP TEACHER MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The first five years of teaching are the most critical for new teachers entering the profession, and the supports that new teachers receive during this time not only impacts whether they’ll remain in the profession, but how well their students will do academically. To support new teachers in the region, CREEED expanded on its partnership with UTEP’s College of Education, the El Paso Community Foundation and local school districts, to launch the UTEP Miner Teacher Mentorship Program.
Led by UTEP and the New Teacher Center, in partnership with Canutillo, Fabens, and Tornillo Independent School Districts, the mentorship program pairs new teachers, those within their first three years of teaching, directly with a highly-trained, experienced educator or instructional coach to provide hands-on guidance and support in the classroom. These mentors serve as trusted partners throughout two years and are continuously trained and measured for success. Currently, over 80 new teachers are participating in our region's innovative Teacher Mentorship Program.
