INCREASING EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS

One of the biggest challenges facing El Paso’s economic prosperity is ensuring we have an educated workforce to fill the jobs needed to grow our region’s economy. Making sure that El Paso’s students are ready to lead our future economic success is one of our key goals.

In 2017, CREEED launched Choose to Excel with the goal of increasing postsecondary graduation rates by building a sustainable pipeline of college-ready students.

Through Choose to Excel, we identify and implement efforts that help the region create more high-performing seats through the implementation of a portfolio of high performing schools (public, magnet, charter, and private educational options) in order to deliver the educational outcomes needed for the students of El Paso.

Choose to Excel focuses on three key areas:
  • Increasing the educational attainment of students in the region: CREEED is a resource and partner to our local superintendents and school districts, supporting efforts to expand initiatives that are successfully increasing student attainment rates.  To reach the 60x30TX goals, CREEED also partners with state and national schools that have successful track records of increasing student success and a desire to be part of the El Paso education solution. While we support high-performing charter schools coming to the region, we recognize that they alone will not turn around our attainment challenges. CREEED works to foster greater collaboration between charter and traditional schools so the region can move forward together, since all high-performing options will add to the expansion of high-performing seats within the region.

  • Building a stronger and more innovative educator talent pipeline: CREEED works with local K-12 and higher education leaders to identify and find solutions for the talent development gaps within our region. We continually look for the best local, state and national organizations that will help us strengthen our educator pipeline and attract highly skilled educators. Educators play a key role in the advancement of our students, that is why we believe progress can only be made if we have highly knowledgeable and innovative educators to lead the way.  This includes the development of high-end leadership within the system to effectively guide, develop and expand the number of high-performing seats within  the system.

  • Developing greater community and parent engagement: With the passage of multiple school bonds totaling over $1.5 billion dollars in El Paso County, parents have made it clear that improving their children’s educational system is a top priority. CREEED believes stronger parent and community engagement strengthens our education system and education policies so we are working with local, state and national community and parent engagement organizations to identify and implement opportunities for parents to become advocates for their child’s education, by understanding the choices that are available to them in the public education system for their children’s educational development and attainment.  This, in turn, will place parents in a position to know the type of quality programs and opportunities available as well as necessary to engage all students in the system of education-and demand that the system provide it.
