GET INVOLVED

TAKE ACTION

To help El Paso students succeed, parents and community members must actively advocate on their behalf and participate in the educational decision-making process.  Parents and guardians are their children’s best advocates; they shouldn't hesitate to ask questions and hold school leaders accountable for providing all students with the educational opportunities that prepare them for college.

CREEED has created the resources below to help parents, guardians, and community members stay informed and engage with school leaders.

FIRST: Get the facts. The data below is from state and national sources.  Review it to learn:
  1. How do El Paso students perform on state and national tests?
  2. What are the gaps and challenges students are experiencing?
  3. How does our regional performance compare to state, and national performance?
  4. How does your child’s school compare to other schools in the region?

RESOURCES TO GET THE FACTS

To help parents and the community we have also put together the below resources to help you take action and advocate for your child’s future.
  1. Understand school and student performance rankings
  2. Learn how El Paso is doing and why we need to do better

Additionally, the Texas Performance Reporting System (TPRS) provides centralized reporting of student performance.

You can also obtain information on the millions of dollars in federal education funding provided to the state, including the El Paso education system from local school districts to higher education institutions. Information on the amount of money received and the tracking of funds used can be found on the U.S. Department of Education, Education Stabilization Fund website.
SECOND: Ask questions, get answers, and advocate for greater educational attainment for your child and all students in every school and every district in El Paso.  Below are some questions you can ask school leaders.  You can find additional questions on our COVID-Recovery Plans page.

  1. What is the school doing to make up for the learning gap created by COVID-19?
  2. How are the schools using federal funds to ensure educational attainment is a top priority to mitigate the learning gap caused by COVID-19?
  3. What efforts are being implemented at the school to ensure every student is MEETING state standards for their grade level, and is prepared to enter the next grade at the end of the school year?
