Now in its seventh year, the Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship was established in August 2017 by CREEED to honor retired San Elizario ISD Superintendent Sylvia Hopp for her years of service in educational leadership. The Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship Fund was set up in the amount of $20,000 to provide annual scholarships in the amount of $2,500 to a graduating senior from San Elizario High School.
One student of the graduating class is selected as the annual awardee through an application process. This is a one-time award and is not subject to renewal. The goal of the scholarship is to encourage academic excellence and accomplishments in high school, with successful completion of a post-secondary education within six years of graduating from high school.
To be considered for the scholarships, students can self-nominate by submitting an application or be nominated by a teacher or administrator of the San Elizario High School or San Elizario School District by submitting an application on behalf of a student.
A selection committee will review and score all submitted applications, and the scholarship recipient will be announced in June of each year at San Elizario High School’s Rose Ceremony.
