In October 2024, CREEED, in partnership with the El Paso Chamber, convened close to 150 education and community leaders committed to improving education across El Paso at the inaugural El Paso Matters Summit. This new annual event will bring together the El Paso community to identify successful programs that can be replicated across the region to increase student performance and spur discussions and ideas on how to support all students in El Paso to succeed in higher education and the workforce.
This year’s Summit included a keynote address from Ray Martinez, President & Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, highlighting Texas House Bill 8, which created a new funding model that ties state funding for community colleges directly to student outcomes and regional workforce needs.
Additionally, two panel discussions provided insights into the important role educators play in advancing student learning, and the innovative efforts within our region that schools are implementing to prepare students for college success and completion.
The Summit was also the backdrop for CREEED’s launch of El Paso School Finder. This new website allows parents to easily find, compare, and review information on over 240 free public schools across El Paso County.
