BACKGROUND

WHY WE STARTED CREEED
With national and state projections reflecting that 65 percent of all new jobs by 2020 will require some post-secondary credential it is clear that the future of El Paso’s economy requires a competitively skilled and educated workforce. Unfortunately, only 19 percent of El Paso 8th graders currently obtain a postsecondary credential in 11 years. This is the second lowest attainment rate of any region in Texas. Based on the future needs of our community, our current attainment levels are not enough to support a healthy economy.

The future of our region requires that we find new ways to improve the level of academic readiness required for our students to succeed in college and then the workforce. And we need to do it quickly. As business leaders, community supporters and most importantly, parents, we realized that this isn't just an educator’s challenge. Business and civic leaders, educators and the community must come together to create pathways for success. Prosperity for everyone living in El Paso depends on it.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
CREEED uses six guiding principles when identifying opportunities to support.  The combination of these principles ensures the long-term sustainability and successful implementation of initiatives that will help El Paso students succeed:

Six Guiding Principles:
  1. Educational Achievement
  2. Investments in Resources
  3. Collaborative Approach
  4. Sustainable Initiatives
  5. Proven Track Record of Results
  6. Measurable Outcomes
STRATEGIC FOCUS
At CREEED, we are bringing together education, business, and civic leaders to accomplish the following:
Picture
  • Increase student attainment levels to ensure more students are college-ready.
  • Increase equal access to quality public education options for all students by expanding the number of high-performing seats in our public system.
  • Increase the number of high quality innovative school leaders and teachers.
  • Increase parents and community engagement in education decisions.
  • Implement and support initiatives and policies that are guided by research and have a track record of improving outcomes for our students.
  • Establish measurements to assess progress to accomplish these objectives.
  • Enhance overall governance of the public school system.
