BACKGROUND
WHY WE STARTED CREEED
With national and state projections reflecting that 65 percent of all new jobs by 2020 will require some post-secondary credential it is clear that the future of El Paso’s economy requires a competitively skilled and educated workforce. Unfortunately, only 19 percent of El Paso 8th graders currently obtain a postsecondary credential in 11 years. This is the second lowest attainment rate of any region in Texas. Based on the future needs of our community, our current attainment levels are not enough to support a healthy economy.
The future of our region requires that we find new ways to improve the level of academic readiness required for our students to succeed in college and then the workforce. And we need to do it quickly. As business leaders, community supporters and most importantly, parents, we realized that this isn't just an educator’s challenge. Business and civic leaders, educators and the community must come together to create pathways for success. Prosperity for everyone living in El Paso depends on it.
