STUDENT ATTAINMENT & SCHOOL PERFORMANCE
EXPANDING THE NUMBER OF HIGH-PERFORMING SCHOOLS AND HIGH-QUALITY SEATS
CREEED supports efforts that ensure more students are ready to pursue, excel in, and complete a rigorous post-secondary degree or certification program upon high school graduation, with emphasis on marketable “in demand” skills. With over 80% of El Paso high school students staying in the region for their post-secondary studies, El Paso’s economy is structurally tied to the success of our primary and secondary school ecosystems. This geographically isolated school-to-career pipeline means that we need to make improvements in educational attainment early on to produce career and economic development outcomes on the back end.

The need within our region is real and now is the time to start making these improvements. Experts predict that by 2020 over 65% of all new jobs in the U.S. economy will require a postsecondary degree or training beyond high school. Unfortunately, currently only 19% of El Paso eighth graders go on to obtain a college degree or post-secondary certification.
CREEED supports the goal set out by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board of seeing 60 percent of all young people hold a degree or certificate from a higher education program by the year 2030. To reach that goal, our region must accelerate our pace of increasing educational attainment; we must rapidly increase the number of high-performing seats across all districts in El Paso County; and we must ensure that every school provides every student with the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Read on to learn about our efforts to work with local school districts and high-performing charter schools to implement proven, replicable, and scalable education initiatives in El Paso that are increasing timely postsecondary attainment.
