CREEED LAUNCHES AIM HIGH: ALGEBRA IN MIDDLE SCHOOL INITIATIVE
CREEED recently launched our new AIM High Initiative (Algebra In Middle School) with a simple goal: to increase the number of middle school students taking and passing Algebra I at the MEETS level, and thus setting them up for success in high school and beyond.
Algebra I is considered a “gateway” course since it helps students understand complex concepts that they will apply to other math and science courses – including geometry, physics, statistics and chemistry – in their high school and college journeys.
AIM High builds on CREEED’s commitment to increase the number of students taking dual credit classes, by preparing students to be able to take advanced math and science courses earlier in high school while receiving college credit.
Through the AIM High Initiative, CREEED is laying the groundwork to ensure more students attend and graduate college, ensuring we have a workforce better prepared for our 21st Century job opportunities.
ONLY 40% of the 8th grade students in Region 19 are taking Algebra I, and ONLY 30% pass the state exam at the MEETS grade level standard
SUPPORTING MORE STUDENTS TAKING AND PASSING ALGEBRA I
Over the past few years, CREEED has provided grants to help our region’s middle schools expand Algebra I classes to more students and ensure students pass this critical course. In 2022, CREEED supported the expansion of classes at several Canutillo ISD middle schools.
RECOGNIZING TOP PERFORMING SCHOOLS
As part of this effort, CREEED is rewarding excellence in achievement and showcasing the educators and school professionals who are leading our region in supporting middle school student success in Algebra I. For the 2022-2023 school year, all of the top performing middle schools in Algebra I for El Paso County were in the Socorro school district.
