STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS - SYLVIA HOPP SAN ELIZARIO COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
To be considered for the scholarship, students can self-nominate by submitting an application or be nominated by a teacher or administrator of the San Elizario High School or San Elizario School District by submitting an application on behalf of a student. A selection committee reviews and scores all submitted applications, and the scholarship recipient is announced in June of each year at San Elizario High School’s Rose Ceremony. Scholarships are open to any San Elizario graduating high school senior during their senior year. Scholarship awards are limited to cover tuition and fees and will be paid directly to the educational institution in the student's name.

“At CREEED, we are thinking holistically about how we support students along their education journey, starting as early as kindergarten and providing supports along the way through college,” said Eduardo Rodriguez, CREEED’s Executive Director. “Preparing students to obtain a college degree is one support, but also giving them the resources they need to obtain that degree is equally important. We are excited about the future college graduates that will benefit from the Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship Fund.”
In October 2017, CREEED established the Sylvia Hopp San Elizario College Scholarship.  With a $20,000 commitment, $2,500 given annually through 2025, the scholarship provides one graduating senior from San Elizario school district with funds to help cover tuition or fees associated with attending and completing a post-secondary education.

After an illustrative career spanning 42 years in education, Sylvia Hopp retired in 2017 from her post as superintendent of San Elizario Independent School District. During her 17 years at San Elizario Independent School District - five of which she served as superintendent - Hopp helped spearhead important district initiatives aimed at closing education attainment gaps and bringing needed resources to the school district.

The goal of the scholarship is to encourage academic excellence and accomplishments in high school, with successful completion of a post-secondary education within six years of graduating from high school.
